I deliberated a bit about doing a specific write up on the Women's day that just passed, as cliche as it sounds I feel that having a day like this is more about fuelling consumerism than actually paying respect to the revolution that marked this day. But then, being a woman myself, I realize that any occasion which gives me an opportunity to talk about my belief and create awareness about the roles of both men and women, towards creating a gender equal society, is a day worth addressing. So here are my two bits.
I wish women's day were more than giving roses to women in office, and actually not calling a strong woman 'bossy' behind her back.
I wish women's day were not to only respect your own mom because she was a creator, and still respect every girl whether they are mothers or not
I wish women's day were about also celebrating men, who treat women around them with casual equality, unspoken dignity and deep respect.
I wish people doing their mother's or wife's work on this particular day wondered, why they otherwise do not do it throughout the year.
I wish the words such as 'stubborn' , 'unsure' , 'opinionated' were replaced by 'uncompromising', 'democratic', 'decisive' when it comes to women
I wish men sharing the load were not known as 'joru ka gulam', and I am blessed with a father and husband.
These are a bit extreme thoughts to deliberately raise points that are knowingly or unknowingly hinder our progress as a society. Hope this gives some food for thought to men and women alike.
