A Conjugal Conversation – দাম্পত্যআলাপ - BuddhadebBosu (part-1)

20 September, 2019 05:24:00 PM

Translated by Pratik Ghosh.  Developer of the "JUSTORI" the radio station in hand.

“May I know who the woman is whose picture you are staring at?”

“This is Sushama Dutta. At the age of 28 she has left for the heavenly abode immersing her husband and three young children into a sea of sorrow.”

“Ah died! That’s why the picture appeared.”

“That’s true. Not for any other reason. Though the picture has appeared on the newspaper, nobody would envy her.”

“Noted. So, you reckon that we only envy.”

“Well, why would you envy? Though as it happens if I look at any other woman, there’s at onceturmoil in your heart.”

“Well, say whatever you may but is it nice for a gentleman to stare at a lady?”

“Of course not. Because, a man looks directly, straight at the woman which everybody can see openly. But when a woman looks at a man, they do so surreptitiously. Not everyone notices but he who gets the look feels it at his heart.”

“I see. So, is that the reason why you had been staring at that picture so attentively?”

“Well, it was reminding me of a lot of things.”

“Did you know her?”

“Why are you shocked? I wasn’t your husband always. There were times in my life when I had my chances to meet a few girls.”

“Now, no need to boast. You aren’t any Casanova that as women saw you, they would fall for you.”

“Not about falling in love. I was just talking about friendship.”

“So, tell me what sort of friendship you had with Mrs.SushamaDatta.”

“She wasn’t a Datta then. She was a Majumdar.”

“Ah, that sounded melancholic. You wanted her to have your surname. You couldn’t forget that it didn’t happen.”

“Wrong! I helped in changing her surname.”

“Oh! Were you running a dating agency back then?”

“Not an agency. That was the only attempt and the outcome was good. Unfortunately it didn’t end well. Poor Sukumar! I have to write to him. I wonder what I shall write. There’s no meaning to write such letters but cannot do otherwise. Why are you laughing?”

“Nothing! Just crossed my mind that had you married her, what fun it would have been for you now. Wedding bells would start ringing again.”

“If you start imagining every dead or alive woman as co-wife, you will never find peace.”

“I can get some peace now, if you tell me the tale of Madam Sushama. You know how we are – dying out of curiosity.”

“You will be disappointed. There is no sensational pysco-analysis here like you find in the fictions by your favourite novelist.”
